Anderson MBA Program Information - Waiver Policy
Waiver Policy Instructions

Anderson Students 1. Please read the waiver policy and determine IF you qualify for a waiver.

2. All students should be prepared to provide a syllabus, course description, or other detailed information about the course they are attempting to waive in order to attach to the completed waiver sheets

3. It is your responsibility to check with the Anderson Graduate Programs office that all signed waivers are in your file as early as possible in your program. Faculty may check your file for courses completed or waived. Students without waivers may be disenrolled if they are registered for courses requiring core courses as prerequisites.

4. Coursework eligible for waiver cannot be taken for credit at the graduate level to meet degree requirements. (For example: if you are eligible to waive MGMT 522, you may not enroll in MGMT 522 to meet degree requirements.)

5. Coursework completed at the undergraduate level is not eligible for waiver if taken in nondegree status or if a bachelor's degree has already been awarded.

6. Copies will be made upon request.

Waiver Policy Instructions

Students with strong academic preparation in specific core courses may request a waiver that does not satisfy the specific waiver requirement (AACSB School, 5 year limit, grade of B or better). A student requesting a waiver may:

  • Be granted an unconditional waiver,
  • Be granted a conditional waiver, in which case the concentration advisor is required to select an upper-division course from the area out of which they have waived,
  • Be requested to take a qualifying examination, or
  • Have his/her request denied.

In order to qualify for a waiver, the student must meet the following conditions:

  • Waivers must be based on courses completed with a grade of B or better in courses of similar content completed at schools accredited by the AACSB or where an articulation agreement is established. Courses must have been completed within the past five (5) years. The granting of a waiver presumes that the student currently has the knowledge and skills provided by the course waived. The burden of proof is on the student to provide adequate documentation to support the waiver request. All core courses are eligible for waiver with the exception of MGT 598.
  • Undergraduate courses taken in the Anderson Schools while in non-degree, second bachelor's, or graduate status cannot be used as the basis for waivers. Graduate students must enroll in the appropriate 500-level courses;
  • MBA candidates are expected to complete coursework for a concentration in order to earn that concentration. Concentration coursework cannot be waived.
  • Regardless of the number of waivers granted, a student must meet the minimum requirements of 33 hours of earned credit, 6 of which may be approved transfer credit. If waivers exceed this limit, electives may be substituted. No student may graduate with less than 33 hours of earned credit.

Details on waiver equivalents are attached to this document. All candidates for the MBA are responsible for reading and understanding all waiver and school policies. The Anderson Student Policy Handbook contains additional information and should be referred to for other specific policies.
